It’s a brand-new week, folks! That means loads of new opportunities to get off the couch, out of the house, and in front of some live music. Cooler temperatures are starting to make their way across the region, which means you’ll just have to boogie extra hard to stay warm! The forecast for this weekend looks great, though, and could serve as the perfect opportunity to squeeze in one last festival before the season in over. No plans? No problem! Here is what’s up this week.
Resonance Music and Arts Festival is getting ready to take place this Thursday through Sunday at Cooper’s Lake in Slippery Rock, PA. Resonance holds a special place in the heart of many festival goers, and offers so much more than just a live music experience. Other than live sets from over 60 bands like Tipper, Tycho, Papadosio, Umphrey’s McGee, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Twiddle, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Dopadod, Consider The Source, Keller Williams, and LITZ, this event also has a full three-day schedule of workshops, events and other activities involving things like sound healing, sacred geometry, plant consciousness and more. This event also features a full line-up of visual and performing artists to help spread good vibes, and create space for alternative modes of expression. Not sure about what to expect? Current ticket prices for weekend admission are set at $245, with this price including primitive camping and parking. Shepherds Ford Productions are proud to present the 16th annual Watermelon Park Festival in Berryville, VA, this Thursday through Sunday. These guys have organized over 20 festivals at this site since 2004, and may have learned a thing or two along the way. Get your folk, bluegrass, and old-time fix with musicians and bands like Sam Bush, The Infamous Stringdusters, The Travelin’ McCoury’s, Tim O’Brien Band, Sierra Hull, The Dead South, Lindsay Lou, Larry Keel Experience, and many other talented artists. Don’t show up just to sit in front of the stage all day, though, bring your own act and get up on stage for one of the contests being held. Three contests (full band, and separate guitar/mandolin picking) will be held over the weekend with varying rules and prizes. If you’d like take part in the fun be sure to head over to the event’s official site to read all of the rules and learn how to sign up. Weekend admission for this event is going to cost you $160, with tickets only being available at the gate at this point. There are a low number of passes left so be sure to check online or call to make sure you don’t make the drive all the way only to arrive to a sold-out event. Get ready for a jam-packed day full of the funkiest tunes the region has to offer. Head on over to Ritter Park in the national historic district of Huntington, WV for Funktafest! The event kicks off at 10:30 a.m. and will keep the good vibes going strong until 10:30 p.m. Live music will be provided by several bands, as well as DJ’s, including: Tropidelic, Funk You, Opposite Box, Short & Company, Joslyn & The Sweet Compression, The M.F.B., DJ Charlie Brown Superstar, DJ Tim Hoover, Pyradigm, Tripster, and some other great acts as well.
