Yellow Springs, OH “acoustifolk” quartet and Appalachian Jamwich Magazine’s August featured artist Blue Moon Soup has announced a fall tour supporting their self titled release due out September 6th. Starting with a special appearance at The Ville Music Festival on Memorial Day weekend, where they will play an afternoon set and will be appearing as a special guest along with Rumpke Mountain Boys during Floodwood‘s late night set to close out the festival.
They follow the Ville performance with a CD release party on September 6th at Canal Street Tavern in Dayton, OH, the closest city to their home base of Yellow Springs, OH. The self titled release is a follow up to their 2011 studio release Lonely Mountain; however, they have also released numerous live performances via their website since forming in 2010. According to fiddle player Robbie Marion in an interview with Appalachian Jamwich, “I think it’s a more well-thought out release. We’re actually really glad that we waited to self-title this release, as it’s more indicative of our current sound. We’ve perfected it over time, and I believe the album is a lot more mature.”
The Moonrise tour will also take the up and coming group to Chicago, Kansas, Colorado and Kentucky, appearing at festivals such as WerkOut at Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio and Zombie Apocalypse at Zane Shawnee Caverns in October. Dates for the shows are listed below.

BLUE MOON SOUP IS: Robbie Marion (fiddle/vocals; Brendan Moore (mandolin/vocals); Jon Baumann (upright bass/vocals); Justin Moon (acoustic guitar/vocals)
About Blue Moon Soup: Blue Moon Soup, the acoustic folk quartet from Yellow Springs, Ohio, entrances audiences with an eclectic mix of jam band staples, folk and bluegrass traditionals, and originals tunes that fuse folk and psychedelia to establish a unique identity in an increasingly homogenized musical landscape. As evidenced by the presence of a fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and upright bass, Blue Moon Soup’s bluegrass and Celtic folk roots run deep. On stage, trail-side or fireside, Blue Moon Soup’s music brings a sincerity and spirit to the stage that sweeps wallflowers onto the dance floor, and an enthusiasm that engages the audience into the wee hours. After a Blue Moon Soup show, we hope your feet are tired and your ears yearn for more.
From dive bars to concert halls, Blue Moon Soup quickly attracted a fervent core group of fans throughout the broader Dayton area, and went on to augment its burgeoning following by appearing at a variety of regional musical festivals in Ohio and toured throughout the region, making inroads into Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Indiana.
Lonely Mountain, Blue Moon Soup’s first LP, was released on Christmas Eve 2011 to broad acclaim. Although the band’s current primary focus is to broaden its reach in Ohio metro areas, they are crafting a second LP for a third quarter 2013 release, and continuing to reach out to new fans; young and old, near and far.
