Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band
“Onward” Album Review
by Rodney Moore
WOW!!! Being a fan of Funk music, I had high expectations from a band called, “Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band”, after listening to their 3rd release “Onward”, I was most definitely NOT disappointed!!! This being my first introduction to the band, I was BLOWN AWAY! High energy Funk and soulful sounds, worthy of any funk enthusiast, the entire album is a Funky A+.
Beginning with the head bobbin’ Ante Up, after the opening riffs, the first thing to grab you are the superb vocals from lead vocalist Mary “Mama Funk” Frances, aptly named because she spanks the keyboards, and keytar alike, and she does it with love! While creating sound all around, Al Al “Sweet Nasty” Ingram, slaps the bass like a true Funkateer, laying a Bootsy worthy floor over a foundation provided by Lee “Insta Funk” Allen. Completing this stellar line-up are JP “Smoke Machine” Miller on guitar, who stirs the lumps out of this pot of Funk Gumbo, and Derrick “Dr. Ock” Johnson who handles the trombone like he was born with it!
Combined, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, hits the ground running and continues to make you groove with instrumentals like the smoking hot, “Sanchez” and soulful cut “The Den”, and even offers a little something for the hip-hop fans with tracks like the jammin’ “Precious Moments” and the new rump shaking anthem, “Trunk Fallin’ Off. (Be sure to check out the video on youtube, it’s Epic!) Overall? There is nothing on this album that I didn’t love! Do yourself a favor and check out Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, they are SURE to have your Trunk Fallin’ Off!
