New Music From The Pimps of Joytime!
Brooklyn’s Progressive Funk Rockers Release First Single In More Than Two Years, “Booty Text” — A Provocative Prelude To Forthcoming Studio Album;

Vinyl 45s Available Exclusively On Tour

“Booty Text”

Brooklyn, NY (Monday, Feb. 17, 2014): Today, the Pimps of Joytime announce a string of April 2014 tour dates in honor of their new single “Booty Text” and forthcoming 2014 studio album, Jukestone Paradise

The exotic five-piece will bring their all-analog dance tunes up the East Coast to Baltimore, MD; Washington, DC; Philadelphia, PA; Burlington, VT; Syracuse, NY; Fairfield, CT; Boston, MA and New York, NY before Midwest performances in Columbus, OH; Chicago, IL; Omaha, NE and Minneapolis, MN.

The Pimps are currently charging the West Coast leg of their winter tour, which kicked off over Valentines’ weekend with two sold-out shows in San Francisco, CA at the Independent.

Before heading out west, on Jan. 28, 2014, the Pimps of Joytime proudly announced their first single in more than two years, releasing “Booty Text” as a free fan download on their website, pimpsofjoytime.com. The clever holler back anthem is available on limited-edition vinyl 45s that feature a bonus “dubby mix” of the song, for sale exclusively on tour.

The vinyl release is the band’s first, a nod towards the remix culture of their native Brooklyn. “Remixes are a huge part of the club culture because they reinterpret and often times revitalize the original. A song comes alive when you’re on the floor experiencing it with your people,” said lead vocalist and guitarist Brian J.

“Booty Text” was also produced by Brian J, who has produced all of the band’s albums as well as Cyril Neville’s last solo record and Galactic trombonist Corey Henry’s forthcoming work. In the past he’s recorded most of the Pimps’ instrumental parts himself, including percussion. But with the addition of new drummer John Staten, Brian J dabbles with live percussion in the studio for the first time on the group’s forthcoming album, Jukestone Paradise. “[Staten] brings a lot of fire into the drums, he’s a huge part of this record,” Brian J explained. “Percussion is really important to me, and with him I’m able to mix them loud and powerful.”

Set for release in 2014, Jukestone Paradise will usher the Pimps’ most focused groove to date, threading heavy delta blues riffs with intoxicating rhythms and clever songwriting throughout. It will also feature an electrifying collaboration with Alex Toth of Rubblebucket. [Note: “Booty Text” not featured on Jukestone Paradise, single only]

About The Pimps of Joytime:

The Pimps of Joytime smile the face of genre boundaries, letting funk, rock and world beat run wild on the dance floor. Their exotic sound weaves together influences from Brooklyn’s underground club culture and the music of New Orleans into a groove all their own. Early albums High Steppin’ (2007) and Janxta Funk! (2011) quickly gained notoriety among indie music circles, earning high praise from NPR and BBC Radio, as well as festival appearances at Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, High Sierra, All Good and more. The colorful ensemble features vocalist, guitarist and producer Brian J, female sirens Mayteana Morales and Cole Williams on percussion and vocals, longtime bassist Dave Bailis, and new drummer John Staten. In January 2014 the Pimps released their first new single in two years called “Booty Text” — a provocative prelude to their forthcoming third studio album, Jukestone Paradise, due out later this year. www.pimpsofjoytime.com
