Organizers have announced the full lineup of artists that will perform at the second annual event at Natural Chimneys Park in Mt. Solon, VA, on July 11, 12 and 13. The festival is again hosted by The Steel Wheels and presented by WNRN and Blue Mountain Brewery.
“The Steel Wheels are so excited about this year’s lineup!” said Trent Wagler, the band’s lead singer and primary songwriter. “Since the festival was new last year, no one knew what to expect and when it was such a rousing success, the bar was set very high. We believe festival goers will be even more delighted thisyear.” The festival features bands that use traditional American musical forms in their own fresh way and brings genre leaders such as Tim O’Brien, Darrell Scott, Hayes Carll and Peter Rowan together with hot new stars like The Devil Makes Three, Trampled By Turtles and Sara Jarosz.
The Steel Wheels, who are also emerging stars on the national roots scene, started the festival last year with the goal of bringing home to the Shenandoah Valley the exciting music they were seeing at festivals all over the country. Natural Chimneys Park was chosen as a beautiful location in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley near Harrisonburg, Staunton and Charlottesville. Many fans came from other states and were impressed not only by the wealth of national talent at Red Wing but also by the quality of the local bands such as The Judy Chops, The Travelin’ Hillbillies and Bryan Elijah Smith & The Wild Hearts.
The Red Wing Roots Music Festival features 40 bands on 4 stages, community dances, kids activities, food and craft vendors and access to a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities including organized bicycle rides led by Shenandoah Bicycle Coalition. The family friendly festival is also environmentally aware with attendees encouraged to use their own reusable beverage containers or souvenir steel cups which can be purchased on site. Drinking water is available for free and craft beer and wine is for sale in the Blue Mountain Brew Garden.
Last year’s inaugural Red Wing Roots Music Festival was wildly successful with approximately 2,500 attendees who raved about the music, the beauty of the setting, and the intimate and friendly atmosphere. Festival organizers are determined to retain that atmosphere and so are limiting ticket sales to 3,000 this year. With tickets sales running far ahead of this time last year, fans are encouraged to purchase soon while they are still available. Although Premium RV camping at Natural Chimneys Park sold out quickly, on-site tent camping passes are still available. And, both RV and tent camping passes are available at scenic Stokesville Campground, which is five minutes away and serviced by free shuttle buses for festival attendees.
