Sept 23 & 24, 2016, Clarksburg, MD

Got an itch for the hometown lovings of musical acts from the one and only Maryland? Then the hometown Getdown is where you’ll want to be. Every band has its roots, and for this funky festival, the culmination of these bands found their roots right here in the DMV. We’re celebrating the end of the summer, but the beginning of something new, creation through art, music and love!
What I love personally about this festival is where its heart’s at. Saving people from domestic violence. Proceeds from Hometown Get Down go towards The Bernie House, which provides housing for families fleeing domestic violence. There’s little we can do to control people’s violent behavior on other people, but giving them a second chance in a new home is the next best thing I could think of. Shout out to Hometown Get Down and The Bernie house for bringing the peace from the music frontier.
The festival will be held in Clarksburg, MD, where you’ll find musical acts from all over the spectrum- funk, soul, roots, and good old bluegrass. Come on down to the hometown where the stage will be extra trippy-like with talented musicians like The Dirty Grass players, Moogatu, Love Canon, Cris Jacobs Band and many more!
Bring your tweaker freaker speaker leapers because the spirit is in the air, you have Canons of love, (Love Canon) shooting the festivities off with some retro 80 bluegrass. Fall into grace with the National Headliners, a band keeping it bluegrass with a psychedelic twist on jams old and new from bands like Grateful Dead. Then take off with the relaxing, soothing blues rhythms of The Ron Holloway Band. Ron Holloway is an act you won’t want to miss, with incredible variety on the saxophone and a soul that penetrates even the most thick skinned of all.
On Saturday Dale and the Z Dubs will kick things off, with their great energy and vibe. Get ready for a reggae boogie sesh, followed by The Dirty Grass Players, who bring a new twist to old bluegrass tunes and “ a bit of wizardry” to top it all off.
For my fellow gypsy wanderers, stop by the Gypsy Soul Revival for blues, soul and funk and overall eclecticness of this band, who boast a female lead that can sweep you right off your feet with her sweet voice. The Gypsy Soul Revival’s bio on their website reminds us of “ the idea that there’s a connection that happens when like minded people come together for a greater good.. with a passion for the music that moves people!”
If your grass if feeling a bit too green, and you’d like that extra touch of blue, come join us at the Hometown Get Down, at 11820 Hawkes Rd., Clarksburg MD. Come dance with a purpose, where you’ll be sure to be taking a musical journey through time, with a hint of the old,a hint of the new, a hint of the roots, and a hint of the truth. There will be Camping included in your purchase, food and drinks on sale, and musical acts for days that will leave you breathless. Come on down to the Get Down!
