Asheville-based Psychedelic Nu-Funk band STIG is taking up the funk reins and galloping across North Carolina this month for a string of shows throughout the state. You won’t want to miss one of their high-energy show experiences if you’re anywhere near Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Boone, Asheville, Huntersville, or Greensboro in May.
STIG spent the last month touring throughout the country, returning to towns across the Northeast and Southwest, and they are finally back in the Southeast region.
The upcoming North Carolina string of shows follows STIG’s recent release of a 4-track Live EP paired with uniquely STIG trippy visuals – up on their YouTube channel. The Live EP includes two new songs: can’t-stand-still funk frenzy Happy Ending and head-bangy funk-heavy Beethoven in Space, plus the first live release of their song No Dads, and a doctored, spicier version of their older track Fly Away Playboy.
If you’re able to catch these guys at one of their upcoming shows, listen for a live version of the band’s “first attempt at a power waltz,” a track called Tagoose. STIG’s bass player Artie Sadtler describes it as “a burning funk song in ¾ that builds into reckless improvisation from Ryan Stigmon on sax and Jack McChesney on drums. The punchy groove that anchors the song will be sure to lull your feet off the ground.”
Need a reason to come out? Listen as Jack creatively builds and erupts on drums – you’ll wonder if it’s thundering inside, witness the smooth coquettish twists and turns of Ryan’s saxophone melodies, watch Thommy tickle the synth with syncopated sonic surprises and nimbly advance about the keys, catch yourself lost in a dream journey inside a beautiful painting during one of Riley’s sweet guitar solos, all while Artie cohesively holds a steady groove on bass.
