What’s up, readers? Summer has officially drawn to a close, however, the good vibes continue to thrive.  This week let’s celebrate the start of something new, and try to take stock of all that we are grateful for having experienced/overcome this past season. There are still plenty of festivals going on if you’re not ready to call it quits just yet, and a ton of great concerts happening at a local venue near you. No plans? No problem. Here’s what’s up this week.

Healing Appalachia, presented by Hope in the Hills and Tyler Childers, is taking place this Saturday, September 28 at the State Fair of West Virginia.  Healing Appalachia is a group of like-minded community members that organize and hold events to help fundraise for organizations and programs that aim to fight the opioid crisis happening in the Greater Appalachian region.  Since their inaugural event last year, the group has donated over $20,000 to local charities.  This event is another step in their mission to spread awareness and aid in recovery, and every person in attendance represents a chance to stop the damage that is being done.  Those helping to spread the good vibes with their homegrown tunes this year include Tyler Childers, Brian Fallon, The Gibson Brothers, Arlo McKinley & The Lonesome Sound and Senora May. Tickets for this event are on sale for $35, with gates opening at noon, and music going all the way until 10:00 p.m.  To learn more and purchase your tickets today head on over to the event’s official website.

The groovy gentlemen of Dr. Bacon are proud to present The Smokedown 2019 at Little Creek Vineyards in Snow Camp, NC this Friday and Saturday. The Smokedown is a weekend-long music, arts and camping experience that features the music of Dr. Bacon and their many friends from along the road.  All your usual food/craft vendors, flow/performance artists will be on-site, though feel free to B.Y.O.B if you know how to party responsibly.  Other than our gracious hosts, Dr. Bacon, expect to hear a set or two from the likes of Maj Deeka, Emmas Lounge, Row Jomah, Blackwater Brass, C2 and The Brothers Reed, Groove Fetish and several other great musicians and bands. Weekend passes for this one are on sale for $70, which includes camping and parking.  If you’d like to show up for the pre-party on Thursday, be ready to fork over an extra $20.  Don’t forget to pack some warm-weather clothes and a heavy blanket!  For more details head on over to Dr.Bacon’s official webpage.

Fletcher’s Grove is back to provide the good folks of Philippi, WV with an intimate little festival to close out the Summer and prepare for the slow descent into winter.  Groovin’ in the Grove isn’t about having the flashiest stage setup or the biggest crowds. Instead, if you want to share your passion for live, down-to-earth music, being outdoors, all things grassroots then might we suggest you find your way to King Knob Motorsports Park. Live music for the event will be provided by Fletcher’s Grove, Larry Keel Experience, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Rasta Rafiki, Jakobs Ferry Stragglers, Electric Orange Peel, and over a dozen other talented musicians. Weekend passes are $60 if purchased in advance, $75 at the gate, and each car that enters the venue will be charged $10.  To learn more about this event please visit http://www.groovinwv.com/.
