On Wednesday, June 10th, Desmond Jones is releasing a music video and new song called “George Floyd” in response to the death of George Floyd and the protests that have followed since.
The song will be released exclusively on Bandcamp and ALL proceeds (name your price) will be donated 50/50 to the NAACP Grand Rapids and The Bail Project.
The music video is made up of photos from protests and rallies in the last week from Grand Rapids, Detroit, and Muskegon, MI and Columbus, OH from 5 different local/independent photographers (Nathan Purchase, Nick Small, Adam Berta, James Saville, Ryan Broton).
Isaac Berkowitz wrote the song and all 5 members of Desmond Jones recorded their parts in their own home, and sent them to Kevin McKay in Webberville, MI who mixed it at Inmuso Studios.
Tonight, June 8th, Desmond Jones will be broadcasting a livestream from Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill, for which all donations and tips will go to the NAACP Grand Rapids and The Diatribe Inc– two nonprofits local to the Michigan band that raise awareness of social issues and create positive change in our communities.
“George Floyd”
I can’t breathe he said, now the streets are all on fire and the
Conscience of a nation has blurred red
I can’t breathe he said, now the body of a man who
Should have lived his life lays dead
George Floyd was murdered
On the streets of Minneapolis last week
They saw his skin and did him in
At the hands of the police
Not again, it never ends
No Justice, no peace
I can’t breathe he said, Have we learned nothing from our past or the history we’ve read
I can’t breathe he said, abandoned by our leaders
A headless snake that must be fed
George Floyd was murdered
On the streets of Minneapolis last week
They saw his skin and did him in
At the hands of the police
Not again, it never ends
No Justice, no peace
I can’t breathe he said, the cycle of oppression
Leaves only one direction to be led
I can’t breathe he said, as we heard the pain of generations
past and preset pled
George Floyd was murdered
On the streets of Minneapolis last week
They saw his skin and did him in
At the hands of the police
Not again, it never ends
No Justice, no peace
