Four member jamband Eggy played the first show of a 2022 winter tour last night, at Soundcheck Studios in Pembroke, MA. The show proceeded tonight’s follow up performance at The Warehouse in Fairfield, CT.
The two night stint comes ahead of an exciting upcoming tour for Eggy: staring on Thursday, January 20, the band will embark on a cross country tour opening for jam scene veterans Dopapod. This will be the first time the two bands have linked up on stage, and its sure to manifest some great new chemistry between their respective fanbases.
Despite the unique challenges that 2021 brought to the live music scene, Eggy enjoyed a more than fair amount of success. The band made their debut at a few landmark spots, such as The Peach Music Festival and at legendary room The Capitol Theatre. Just recently, they released a compilation of select live performances from their fall tour, which had them warming up Arizona jammers Spafford.
In their focused drive towards evolving both their presence and their musical output, Eggy have been blessing their steadily burgeoning fanbase with great performances, new songs, and increasingly creative setlist creation. Suffice to say, the band is having a lot of fun on their current ride. Last night’s display at Soundcheck ascertained this multiple times over.
Two fully loaded sets of mostly original material from the band brought all the most impressive features of their approach to live music: their in-the-pocket, staccato style of band improvisation, harmony vocals, colorful song melodies. One of the highlights of the the band’s first set included a brilliant pairing of The Beatles’ “She Came In Through The Bathroom Window” with their swanky original song “Burritos El Chavo.”
The beast of the second set was a double sandwich that linked “Ontisuka Tiger,” the playfully rocking original that is arguably one of the most welcomed from fans, with The Grateful Dead’s “Saint of Circumstance.” The return to Onitsuka, after a lengthy stretch of inventive musicianship, was made extra special with some eerie storytelling to close out the set—before a straightforward but powerful version of “12 Pounds of Pain” shut down the evening.
While the Soundcheck Studios was packed with longtime Eggy fans, checking around and talking with some patrons, it was clear that the place had brought in many first timers. After successful seasons of shows throughout the pandemic, The Pembroke, MA music venue remains a special spot for a pretty big network of hardcore music lovers. Suffice to say, it’s not unusual for an out of town group to perform here and pull a big crowd.
