On Friday, October 7, Ghost Light released their sophomore studio album The Healing on all streaming platforms, via Potato Records

After the unstable few years that the pandemic brought, the band wanted to speak about the cultural and personal shifts that they’ve experienced regarding growth and healing as it related to mental health.

“The story is less the fallout as it is the recovery”, says Tom Hamilton. “Sticking with it. Staying the course in the face of adversity, uncomfortable conversations or situations. The path to health and healing is often not the path of least resistance but the path of perseverance and doing the work.”

While this is only the band’s second product to leave the recording studio, it follows their debut 2019 album Best Kept Secrets, which placed Ghost Light into the forefront of eager audiences throughout the country and instantly cemented their spot among their peers in the jam/rock music scene.

Ghost Light might be one of the jam scene’s best kept secrets… for now. The Healing is sure to catapult the supergroup further into stardom. They are composed of legendary guitarist Tom Hamilton (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Billy & The Kids, American Babies) on guitar and vocals, with the soulful and charming Raina Mullen accompanying him on both guitar and vocals. One of jam music’s favorite pianists, Holly Bowling, holds down the music on keys with Scotty Zwang (formerly of Dopapod) on drums, and (former Turkuaz member) Taylor Shell on bass, who, as of this year, is the newest member of the band.

The album was recorded in Philadelphia’s The Ballroom, a 2,500 square foot studio located in an old forgotten factory. Through both the songwriting and recording process the band began to discover some of their less traveled emotional roots.

“The Healing was something I had been searching for over the last 4 years, and still lose and find again every day”, said Mullen. “Can you ever fully heal from traumas you’ve experienced or do they just simply live inside of you and you learn to dance around them? Writing my traumas into songs and figuring out a way to look at them with shifting perspectives, face them in the mirror and see how they changed me is not easy. I have a hard time letting go and really releasing but I found a lot of freedom, and new parts of my soul, in writing these songs.”
