Gypsy Sally’s is pleased to present a special 2-night run with Brooklyn-based funk/soul/dance pop band Pimps of Joytime. On 12/30 the Pimps will be supported by DC’s funky neo-soul outfit, Aztec Sun. 12/31 the Pimps will be supported by master sax player, Ron Holloway and his band!

Anyone familiar with the Pimps of Joytime live experience knows the feeling—it’s that moment when a deep bluesy groove morphs into a full-on EDM dance beat, or the sensation when the wide-eyed audience collectively elevates in sync with the band’s tangible energy. The Pimps excel, by mashing up ‘70s funk tones with modern dance beats, mixed with original samples creating their mosaic sound. For listeners weary of today’s DJ culture but eager to dance with abandon, the Pimps of Joytime are the antidote.

AZTEC SUN has grown into an 8-piece ensemble with a sound that evokes a classic ’70s feel all gussied up in a new school approach. In part driven by the band’s culturally diverse background, the timelessness of the band’s musical influences combined with lyrics lathered up in just enough heartbreak and weekend-anthem means that whether it’s the old-school R&B seduction, the uptown Funky grooves, or a pop-alicious hit that gets you going, there’s something for everyone.

The Ron Holloway Band
Ron Holloway is one of the busiest tenor saxophonists on today’s music scene in any genre! Recently, Ron toured extensively with The Warren Haynes Band, in support of two critically-acclaimed releases on the Stax Records label. Holloway is a frequent guest of Gov’t Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band and The Allman Brothers Band. Over the years, he has been a member of an eclectic roster of groups, including; the Susan Tedeschi Band, the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet, Gil Scott-Heron and Root Boy Slim.
