The Drunken Hearts, an Alt-Americana band from Colorado, has been tearing up the road on tour and will be coming to Sellersville, PA, tonight at the Sellersville Theater, with Grant Stinnet as support. The band started as an acoustic trio and has since grown to an electric 5 piece band, evolving their sound and making their way into the hearts of Americana lovers all across the country. They’ll be hitting Floydfest next and then heading back towards the west — so here’s your chance to catch them while you’re still on the East Coast! We talked a little bit to lead singer/acoustic guitarist Andrew McConathy to give you a preview.
How long have you been a band? How long have you been nationally touring?
The band started five years ago as an acoustic trio up in the Rockies of Colorado, and migrated down to the Front Range. We started to go more electric, if you will, as we added electric guitar, bass, and pedal steel. We’ve been on the road touring just over a year now, coast to coast.
How would you describe the musical genre of The Drunken Hearts? Who are some of your influences?
We had an article say we were “an electrifying force of Americana music” last year, and that pretty much sums it up. We’re essentially a rock band with a country western side that gets you all riled up. We draw influence from the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Gram Parsons, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Jerry Garcia, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam…
What song of yours do you think people should listen to if they are curious about your sound?
Our single, “Want You Back” from our 2016 album, “Love & Thirst” or “Tear My Heart Out” which is a sneak peak off our yet to be released album ‘The Prize’.
What do you believe you do differently from other Americana band that sets you apart?
We bring an elevated sound, a bit heavier than a lot of other bands in the realm. From psychedelic steel lines, to growling vocals, to electric guitar solos.
