RHYTHM N’ BLOOMS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES INITIAL LINEUP
DR. DOG, PAUL THORN’S MISSION TEMPLE FIREWORKS REVIVAL FT. THE MCCRARY SISTERS, AND MORE
“Rhythm N’ Blooms Festival is akin to slipping on your favorite jacket — comfortable, well-worn, every crease and wrinkle telling a story that makes you smile.” – The Daily Times
January 11th, 2017 (Knoxville, TN) – Rhythm N’ Blooms Festival is excited to unveil the initial lineup for their ninth annual music and arts festival happening April 6-8, 2018. Headliners Dr. Dog and Paul Thorn’s Mission Temple Fireworks Revival ft. The McCrary Sisters will be joined by The Mowgli’s, The Lonely Biscuits, and many more. As the city’s Dogwood Blossoms begin to bloom in spring, music lovers across the Southeast will be treated to top tier performances from national and regional Americana, Country, Alternative, Roots, and Blues acts spread across seven stages. A confirmed listing of the initial lineup is below. More artists will be announced soon.
Named alongside CMA Music Festival and Bonnaroo as one of “Tennessee’s 10 Best Music Festivals” by the Tennessean, Rhythm N’ Blooms showcases popular national acts and the finest musicians East Tennessee has to offer. “Rhythm N’ Blooms has a history of introducing our audiences to artists before they hit the big-time,” says Chyna Brackeen, co-founder of Rhythm N’ Blooms and president of Attack Monkey Productions,” acts like Chris Stapleton, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, and Margo Price all played intimate sets at our festival before breaking into the mainstream.” She continues, “we pride ourselves on being the festival where you’ll discover your next favorite act. And our comfortable, intimate venues give you the opportunity to experience music up close, often side-by-side, with artists who played the main stage earlier in the weekend. All of this adds up to a festival like no other: friendly, laid back, and with music that will blow your mind.”
Set amidst an urban setting, with the Great Smoky Mountains as a backdrop, Rhythm N’ Blooms features a mixture of indoor and outdoor venues located in the Historic Old City of Knoxville. For the third year, the festival will feature a number of “secret shows” in which the venue and timeslot are announced, but the artist is a secret until the performance begins. “We added secret shows to our schedule to allow fans to experience their favorite bands in a unique, intimate environment,” says Garrett Thomson, the festival’s project manager. “This year, we’ve expanded this concept and I’m most excited to see how people react to what we have planned.”
In an effort to give back its artistic community, Rhythm N’ Blooms will also include educational activities like Musician’s Corner workshops and Knoxville Music History Tours. Last year, the Musician’s Corner provided workshops on topics such as Publicity & Social Media, Covering Your Ass (Legal workshops), and Booking 101, while guided music tours led festival attendees throughout Knoxville’s downtown, highlighting East Tennessee’s rich musical identity. For the sixth year in a row, Rhythm N’ Blooms have also partnered with local schools throughout the county and surrounding region to encourage students to participate in the Epiphone Art Guitar Contest. Out of 60 guitar illustrations submitted, local non-profit Dogwood Arts has selected 15 finalists, and the students are currently working on bringing their design to life on the Epiphone guitars. The Epiphone Guitars will be on display at Awaken Coffee during the festival as part of the Dogwood Arts First Friday programming. The winner of the Guitar Design Contest will receive two festival passes & art supplies!
