As a live music fan during Holiday season, our schedules run a little bit differently than the normal population. Thanksgiving is a quiet afterthought, Christmas revolves around the kiddies, but Halloween and New Years are the highlighted dates on the calendar. Jam band fans tend to be a creative, silly bunch, and any excuse to dress up in costume and act extra wacky is more than welcome. The announcement of String Cheese Incident’s Hulaween at Suwannee Music Park, Live Oak, Florida, brought an over-the-top option for your spooky rage pleasure.
Taking place October 31-November 1, 2013, the festival starts out with a bang on Halloween night, featuring a special 3-set performance from String Cheese Incident. SCI continues to be the main event each night, also playing 2 sets Friday and Saturday evening. Other headliners on the lineup include Sound Tribe Sector Nine, Big Gigantic, Emancipator, Conspirator, Steve Kimock & Friends, Moon Taxi, Jennifer Hartswick, and more. The lineup will have a great mix of dance-inducing electronic influence along with the improvisational jam rock and bluegrass that is indicative of String Cheese’s style. You don’t have to be afraid of missing any music, either, because the festival will have no overlapping sets!
This year will be the second “Hulaween” event that The String Cheese Incident headlines, and the first at Suwannee Music Park in Florida. The first Hulaween took place at The Hampton Coliseum as a series of shows, and this will be their first Halloween show run as the headliners of a festival, creating a truly new incident for Cheese fans to add to their repertoire. The environment of the festival will be a unique experience for Suwannee Park attendants as well, going over-the-top with festive decor:
” Set in the midst of 800 acres of Spanish moss-draped oak and cypress along the Suwannee River, SOSMP is one of the most beautiful live music venues in the country. During Suwanee Hulaween the space will transform into the first rendition of the Spirit Lake Promenade, a visual arts extravaganza never before seen at SOSMP. Fans can expect an epic fusion of dazzling lights, art installations and performance art that morphs the Spirit Lake waterfront and adjacent forest into a vivid dream-like space that fully engages the senses. Working with some of the Southeast’s most talented sculptors, fire/metal workers, painters, performance artists and lighting designers, the Spirit Lake Promenade will also host a Silent Disco and other astonishing Hulaween creations.”
The costume theme will be “Voodoo,” so don’t forget to pack a wickedly magical outfit or two for the weekend. ” Suwannee Hulaween encourages participants to conjure creative costume concoctions for their Voodoo party – from Voodoo Dolls and Tribal Krewe to Creole Creatures and Enchanted Alchemists – the possibilities are endless.”
